The Cliff Dweller’s airstrip is at the edge of Marble Canyon in Grand Canyon National park’s restricted airspace. But if you get prior permission and stay within 3 nm of the airstrip as you descend or ascend, then it’s all yours.

The great thing about the airstrip (in my opinion) is that the runoff ditch midfield turns into a bigger ditch, then a small canyon and finally tumbles into the massive Soap Creek canyon. It’s a tough and long scramble but you can go all the way down (4 miles) to the Colorado River. Past hard-to-find pictographs. There is one 10 foot drop that typically has a knotted rope hanging there for assistance. It looks easier than it is.
But the rest is straightforward. Well straightforward if you enjoy scrambling and routefinding among large house size boulders. I kinda do.
Interesting that you can see the shadow of the pole mount on the ground, but the software takes it out in front of the wing. Very cool software.

Did you camp there? Do they mind? Is there water?ThanksCurtis Campi Sent from my iPad
Yes you can camp there. Well, actually I don’t know but no one is there and I’ve camped there many times. No water. There are, surprisingly, tie downs about midfield. Enjoy!
Hi Ney, just thinking about you and Betsy from a long time ago. You and I worked together at Bentley Nevada the summer you met Betsy.
For some reason, I thought of the two of you this morning and I was just wondering how life has worked out for you. Looks like it’s been good so far!

Sorry Lori, for the late reply. I only get around to this blog every once in a while. But yes, Betsy and I were/are a great match and we are having a lot of fun in retirement (well, she works 4 days a month). Geesh, that summer was when Bets got enough large animal experience to get into Vet school. She did that, bought and ran her own clinic for 30 years, then sold it. I chased her to Davis, got an MBA, started a company, sold it, then did a bunch of other stuff.
So how are you?
