Family Houseboating and Canyoneering on Lake Powell

Houseboating is really fun with kids, and Lake Powell is the ultimate houseboating location at over 150 miles in length with many fantastic side canyons to explore. Plus, you can fly right into Page, Arizona where they have shuttles that take you right to the marina where they rent boats.  But in reality you’ll probably want to rent a car like we did in order to go shopping and see the sights around Page.  But the shuttle is still handy because after we unloaded at the Marina, I returned the car back to the airport and caught the shuttle back to meet the boat.  I think we did this about four years in a row while our kids were small.

In my opinion one of the best things about Lake Powell are the side canyons.  Hiking, swimming past potholes, scrambling, arches, petroglyphs, ruins, its all there.  Of course the side canyons change with flash floods, lake level, etc., but our favorite side canyons were West (exciting but easy scramble through slot canyon), Dead Sheep and  Explorer’s (Petroglyphs and an arch).
