Next up on our Great Alaska adventure are grizzly bears!
This was quite safe, since we were in a boat and they were interested in salmon and couldn’t care less about us. The entire day was an adventure since it started and ended with a floatplane ride over Cook Inlet.
There are several ways to go bear viewing in central Alaska, many of which involve flying over Cook Inlet to the Katmai area. You can spend a lot of time and money to go to the famous Brooks Falls area (where they stand in the rapids to catch fish), but there are numerous other areas that have tours, often a combination of planes and boats that leave from Anchorage, Kenai/Soldotna or Homer.
Our guided tour was a plane over Cook Inlet to the Big River Lakes area, where we boarded river boats and finally motored up to the mouth of some creeks where the bears were fishing.
The best part of the day? My kids were with us! Ney-J, Kathy, Belyn and Brian were all together. If you have adult children you know how rare and special that can be.
